Learn to Fly a Hang-glider

Historically, learning to fly hang gliders has been a tedious affair consisting of performing short hops on 1970’s designed gliders at the nursery slopes of training hills. You would share a glider with up to 6 other students, taking it in turns to clip into the glider with the distant prospect of soaring flight far in the future.

Flylight are one of only two schools in the UK who provide the latest tandem aerotow training, where from your first flight in our modern gliders you will gain more airtime on your first flight than on a whole course using the traditional method!!

Each flight is a 20 -30 minute “one on one” lesson.

Welcome to the future of Hang gliding training.

Tandem hang gliding aerotow training has revolutionised the way people learn to hang glide, making your chances of becoming a pilot much higher than if you chose to learn the basic skills using the old hill based methods.

It is less physically demanding and less prone to interruption by weather, which makes it suitable for a huge range of student pilots. You no longer have to be particularly fit as each of our school gliders has it’s own undercarriage, negating the need to take off and land on your feet (the hardest part of learning to fly hang gliders) until later in your training and, if time is of the essence tandem hang gliding aerotow training is one of the most efficient ways to learn to fly a hang glider as you simply book your slot in the day and do not need to await your turn in the group.

Flylight have, over the last 2 years, been instrumental in certifying the latest high power microlight tug capable of taking you on your first dual flight and have worked closely with the British Hang gliding and Paragliding Association for the last 20 years.

From the first lesson you learn to hang glide with an experienced instructor, towed behind a microlight tug up to an altitude (3000ft or 5500ft) that gives you time to get comfortable with the controls and progress through the BHPA syllabus in a relaxed and unhurried atmosphere.

Take the tandem hang gliding aerotow training course and after as little as 13 tandem flights you could be flying solo.
Then, once qualified as a hang gliding aerotow pilot it is a very straightforward step to convert to fly Hill or Power.
